Description

These papers deal with the creation of foreign consular posts in British India and Burma, their jurisdiction, the appointment of consular officials (both substantive and acting) and general consular matters - all appointments of foreign consular officials in India required the formal approval of both the Government of India and HM Government in London. Consular papers were separately registered from 1885 - series L/PS/16 consists of three separate registration sequences viz: 1885-1909, 1910-1924 and 1924-1930 as well as some miscellaneous unregistered files 1890-1909
