The volume consists of Enclosures to Despatches to the East India Company Secret Committee from the Government of Bombay [Mumbai] Secret Department, dated 29 November-30 December 1841. The despatches themselves are not included in the volume. The enclosures relate to various events in Afghanistan, Balochistan, India, Mesopotamia [Iraq], Oman, Persia [Iran], the Persian Gulf, Shoa [Shewa], Sindh and Zanzibar.

The enclosures to each despatch within the volume (each item) are divided by blue dividers. The sets of enclosures to despatches are arranged in approximate chronological order from the front to the rear of the volume. The enclosures withineach despatch are given a number, which is recorded forreference on the verso of the last folio of each enclosure, along with theoriginal reference, and a description of each enclosure. The despatch itself (notincluded) is numbered 1, the abstract of contents listing the enclosures (included in some items) is numbered 2, and the enclosures 3, 4,etc.
