Ms diary in two volumes (72pp and 28pp) kept during his service with the 25th Cyclist Battalion London Regiment (16th Division) as part of the North West Frontier Force during the 3rd Afghan War, May - December 1919, describing the journey from Lahore to Afghanistan and the problems which beset the party there including illness and attacks by local tribesmen, his being taken ill and convalescence in hospital (June - July), posting to the Divisional Headquarters at Nowshera during August, and his journey home via Deolali and the sea voyage back to Liverpool.
