Probate, 27 Mar. 1725 of will, 6 Dec. 1723, and 3 further copies, of Thomas Benison of Lancaster, gent., appointing his son Thomas his executor and devising to him all his real property and bequeathing (i) to his grandson Josias Morley the interest on £500 during the life of his uncle Josias Morley of Scale Hall, co. Yorks., and after his death the said £500 to his granddaughters Elizabeth and Margaret Morley; (ii) to his daughter Ann Morley 100 guineas; (iii) to his son Thomas and wife Ann, to Robert Gibson of Lancaster, esq. and wife Sarah, to his brother William Benison of Hornby and to his daughter Ann Morley 10 guineas each for mourning; (iv) to Phillis Smales of Hornby the interest on £10, the said £10 to go to her daughter on her death; (v) to servants various small specified bequests; (vi) to James Fenton doctor of laws and Andrew Forbes vicar of Melling one 'Broad piece of Gold' each; and finally requiring the payment, as specified under the marriage articles between the testator and Josias Morley of Beamsley, co. Yorks., and John Morley his nephew, of the remainder of the agreed sum of £500 being the marriage portion of his daughter Ann Morley, to be secured out of lands in Farleton and of which £100 remained outstanding
