n.d. Note that Josh. Jones lives near the 2 mile house gate, Wrexham Road, age 48. Josh. Thomas Castle St. joiner. Mary Jackson dead.
4th March 1843. Chas. Monk from Neston to Mr. Chas. Owen, Town Clerk's Office, Chester, stating that Jane Gibbon (daughter of the late Humphrey Garton) aged 75, is alive and kicking, being the most crossgrained old woman in the parish.
4th March 1843. Letter from Sam. Davies of Bridge Street Row, to John Finchett Maddock, Esq., giving information for Finance Committee about a house in Park Street, purchased by his mother's uncle, Mr. Peter Shone, between thirty and forty years back from a Davies family. He willed it to the writer's mother. On her death it became his father's who willed it to the writer's sister, Mrs. Bailey. When Mr. Bailey was obliged to compound with his creditors, it was sold to Mr. Bentley of the Bear's Paw Inn at the end of Frodsham Street. Some 3 or 4 years back there was reason to believe that the youngest of the three persons named in the lease, who had been a soldier, was working in Chester as a tailor. He does not know if any of the three are dead although he presumes that the father to whom the lease was granted, must be.
6th March 1843. Affidavit by Thomas Mulvey of the City of Chester, ship builder, and John Jones, clerk in the Bank of Messrs. Williams and Granville of the said city, stating that William Boote, son of Joseph Boote of the same city, shipwright was bound apprentice for seven years to Thomas Smith Mulvey and William Wilkinson Mulvey, his co-partner in trade, by indenture dated 27th July 1840. Signed: Thomas Smith Mulvey; J. Jones, before Wm. Hy. Brown, Mayor.
4th March 1843. Letter from R. Humphrey Jones from Wrexham to the Mayor, desiring payment of Crown rents due on lands in Hewlington and Minera. Her Majesty's Commissioners of Woods and Forests have given instructions for the collection of these outstanding arrears.
n.d. Copy letter [From T.C.] to Robert Jones, Esq., solicitor, Wrexham, replying to a letter to the Mayor concerning the above claim. He is not aware that Chester Corporation had any lands in Minera, prior to the Municipal Reform Act, the Mayor, and Sheriffs were Trustees of Charity lands there, but those trusts were transferred to the Charity Trustees. The same is true of lands in Yewlington (sic Mr. Jno. Nevitt Barnett is solicitor to the Trustees.
March-June 1843. Draft minutes, notes, letters, etc, re Finance Committee.
23rd June 1843. F.A. Frost to J.F. Maddocks, Esq. A covering letter for a note from Mr. Harrison, surgeon.
19th July 1843. Circular to Clerks to Commissioners of Taxes from Stamps and Taxes office, London, concerning the Act passed on 27th ult. (6th & 7th Vic. cap.24.)
