The papers concern Williams's employment with JCH Martin Ltd, motor engineers. The firm is listed in local directories from at least 1909. As well as the Cliffe Bridge Garage, the firm also had branches at the Beacon Garage, Crowborough, and in the High Street, Lindfield.
