Description

Two ms diaries (104pp each) kept by a retired flag officer serving as a Convoy Commodore on North Atlantic convoys; the first covering the passage of ONS 110 (July 1942) and, with his pennant in the MANCHESTER PORT, of HX 201 (August 1942), the second, with his pennant in the ATHEL REGENT, the passage of ONS 129 (September 1942) and, with his pennant in JAMAICA PLANTER, of HX 212 (October - November 1942). The most interesting entries entries relate to the sinkings of six ships from convoy HX 212 and his analysis of the possible reasons for these losses and recommendations about better convoy dispositions.

Egerton, who had been placed on the retired list in 1930 and had rejoined for war duties, was lost at sea in January 1943 when serving as Commodore in another North Atlantic convoy.
