Accounts known according to endorsements as Hopton Receipt Papers. There are papers for 1804, 1809 and 1818-1845. Those for 1809 and 1818 have been badly affected by damp and the ink is often very faded

There were two a year following Lady Day [25 Mar] and Michaelmas [29 Sep] rent days, but the papers are dated somewhat later than the rent days

The papers comprised two elements, a rental giving tenants' names and rents, and Hopton payments [but there are no payments in the papers of Jan 1844 and Jul 1845] The rental of 1894 includes Callow

The payments include disbursements on rents, taxes and rates; tradesmen's bills, estate expenses; servants' wages giving, names [but may not include lesser servants]; payments to Carsington School giving teachers names, Hopton Almshouses and Friendly Society; some food, coals, farm stock; travel expenses etc

Note that details of rent arrears and other accounts are often attached to the papers; these are numbered separately
