Description

Papers of Robert Beloe on various subjects:

Minutes and correspondence with Charles Henry Gordon-Lennox, Earl of March and Kinrara, concerning the formation of the New Synod Group, 1970-6.

Included are (ff.3-4v) The Church and the General Synod. An election manifesto from the New Synod Group, 1970, and (ff.36-8) a draft constitution, 1972 (ff.1-54v).

Correspondence of Beloe concerning legislation on the recommendations of the Royal Commission on Marriage and Divorce, of which he was a member, and in particular the amendment of the Matrimonial Causes Act, 1950, and marriage to the brother or sister of a divorced spouse, 1956-61. At ff.76-8 is an account of the recommendations implemented up to 1961 (ff.55-80).

Reports and lectures, 1944-64, as follows:

Journal of a tour to Orkney and Shetland to lecture on education to naval and military establishments, 1944 (ff.81-7).

Notes on the Education Act, 1944 (ff.89-91).

Notes for a lecture given at Hillcroft College on the religious education of children, 1948 (ff.92-5).

Lecture given at St. Osyth's Training College, Clacton, Essex, on children and divorce, 1953 (ff.97-102).

Lecture on the approach to parenthood (Marriage Guidance, June 1954) (f. 107r-v).

Conversations held in 1964 on education in Surrey between Fielden Hughes and James Chuter-Ede, P.C., Baron (1964) (ff.109-110v); Sir Sidney Marshall, former Chairman of Surrey County Council (ff.111-12); Robert Beloe (ff.113-114v); Sydney Black, Chairman of Surrey Education Committee (ff.115-16); Arthur M. Baird, Chief Education Officer for Surrey (ff.117-118v); John Strudwick, member of Surrey Education Committee (f.119r-v).
