Description

Official and estate papers of the Pye family of Clifton Campville, Staffordshire. (Deposited 1959 and 1960). Records including:

Public Office (Walter Pye was auditor of the Exchequer):

Ledger of silver bullion in Exchequer 1576-1582; bullion taken from Spaniards 1656; precedent book c1650-1660; Exchequer warrants 1611-1662; items re the Queen's jointure 1662, 1672.

Manor: Clifton Campville court roll 1679; wills proved in manor court (Wagstaffe family) 1578, 1610.

Deeds: Clifton Campville, Haunton, Hoone (Staffordshire) 1513-1809 (100); some London leases (Petty France and St. James' Street) 1772-1800.

Pye Estate: Rentals and accounts: Clifton and Haunton 1655-1662, 1763-1774; Mynde, Kilpeck, Dewchurch (Herefordshire) 1620-1640; Stoke Hammond (Buckinghamshire) 1659-1681; volume of particulars of numerous estates in many different counties, as securities for mortgages, with particular notes on the mansion houses c1672.

Pembroke Estate (Sir Robert Pye was 4th Earl of Pembroke's executor):

Abstracts and some particulars of the Earl's estates and yearly revenues in Monmouth, Glamorgan, Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire c1630-1650; also Horton, Dorset (possibly Pembroke).

Plans: Clifton, Haunton 1811; Rysbrack drawings for proposed Pye monument c.1722.

Wills, personal papers: Pye, Rainton, Walker, Fischer 1648-1842; Heveningham financial papers, 17th century.

Heraldic: Grants of arms to Croker and Pye families; Bible in English-embroidered binding with arms of Pye c.1635.
