9th Feb. 1861. Mr. Searancke, Co.Meath Surveyor, from Ireland, to the Chairman of Finance Committee, As trustee to some property belonging to the daughters of the late Thomas P , he holds a mortgage amounting to £250 dated 4th Dec. 1852, on the Corporation property of Chester, and is anxious to realize the principal with as little delay as possible to make a division among the parties interested.
17th April 1861. Agreement that Emmanuel Hughes will take and Thomas Bate will let the house in Middle Crane Street, Chester, for three months commencing from 17th inst. at rent of £5.
4th May 1861. Rough minutes of Race Committee.
26th Aug. 1861. R.L.Jones, General Manager, from General Railway Station, Chester, to John Walker, Town Clerk, acknowledging his letter on the subject of injury to the footpaths of the City being done in the delivery of heavy goods, etc. These are delivered by the Gt. Western Co. and Messrs Chaplin & Hearne, who have received similar letters.
23rd Sept.1861. Charles Barker, Coastguard, from Parkgate, to the Commissioners of the Corporation of Chester, replying to their letter. Neither Capt. Price nor his wife has been to pay the anchorage tolls which he is in arrears although the Flat has been lying there all week. He told him he paid it to a Mr. Simcock last Saturday week. This is making him quite a laughing stock and he describes the difficulties of his job. His father-in-law, Master of the Flat Mary of Chester also allows the tolls to run on in the same manner and he asks for their support. The Master of the Flat Mary, Richard Leffez, and a boy were drowned out of the Flat this morning during a gale.
/Watermark 1861/ Note that the Visiting Justices of the City Gaol are to purchase forty-eight suits of clothes for the male prisoners and forty-eight pair of blankets for the general use of the goal.
5th Nov. 1861. Wm. Titherington for P.Revell, from Dee Hills to Jno. Walker. He has just sent to the 'Courant' an address to the Electors of Boughton Ward expressive of his wish to retire from the Council, at the same time having doubts whether it can be accomplished. His plea is inadequate health for the discharge of his duties. He asks if a simple resignation will be sufficient.
15th Nov. 1861. Rough minutes of Volunteer Fund Committee.
18th Dec. 1861. Notice of postponement of letting of Chester Market Tolls. (Rough draft).
/Watermark 1861/. Memorandum concerning bye-laws and stating that a Bye-law should be inserted in accordance with section 43 of the Markets and Fairs Clauses Act 1847.
n.d. Petition from inhabitants of Hough Green and Curzon Park for a pathway to be made by which to descend to the Roodee from the New Bridge.
/Watermark 1861/. Memorial from occupiers of premises in Feathers Lane in Bridge Street stating that their rateable value has considerably increased and their rates and taxes have been considerably augmented in the last few years and that there has been a great increase in the traffic through Feathers Lane, and asking that a gas light or lights should be placed there.
