Administrative / biographical background

Robert Hayward was appointed to a clerical job in the cars branch of Morris Motors Ltd of Oxford in August 1964 and was holding the post of order clerk in the Nuffield Press Ltd in June 1976. In 1978 he was appointed to the post of merchandiser grade 7 in the parts division of BL Cars Ltd, and he also worked for Pressed Steel. He worked for Unipart in material control in the 1980s and then as a parts cataloguer from the 1990s onwards (his job title was product data analyst cataloguing in 2008). He was active in the APEX trade union in the late 1960s and 1970s and signed some of his letters as 'Senior Staff Representative'.
