Minutes and related papers

Incomplete set of records of meetings and conferences held by the Indian Workers Association during the 1980s and 1990s, together with fragmentary records of meetings held in 2002 and 2003, primarily comprising sequences of minutes and agendas of meetings of the Central Executive Committee, but also including a small number of minutes of meetings of other committees, including the Secretariat, which seems to have been made up of the office holders of the Central Executive Committee and established as a committee in the early 1990s. The series also includes papers relating to meetings of the Co-ordinating Committee, set up by representatives from both Indian Workers Associations (GB) before the merger of these groups in 1991. These papers contain very few minutes, but do include press releases and a number of circular letters issued by members of the committee which contain information about the organisation and functions of the group, and decisions taken on the proposed organisation of the merged Indian Workers Association, together with a report to the merger conference in 1991 which gives an account of joint campaigning activities of the two groups during the late 1980s and early 1990s, and changes that took place within both Indian Workers Associations prior to the merger.

The series also includes records of the proceedings of the National Conference of the Association held in 1993, including copies of the reports of the Central Executive Committee presented by the General Secretary which contain information about the organisation's activities and campaigns, and, like the Co-ordinating Committee report to the merger conference, can be viewed as annual reports of the Indian Workers Association.
