In 1947 the National Amalgamated Furnishing Trades Association amalgamated with the Amalgamated Union of Upholsterers to form the National Union of Furniture Trade Operatives (NUFTO). The United French Polishers' Society joined the union in 1969 and the Midland Glass Bevellers and Kindred Trades Society joined in 1970. In 1971 the National Union of Furniture Trade Operatives amalgamated with the Amalgamated Society of Woodcutting Machinists to form the Furniture, Timber and Allied Trades Union (FTAT)
