Title

Date
1950-1960
Description

This series consists of a small collection of the correspondence of William Elgin Swinton (1900-1994) which, for some reason, was not filed in the departmental collection. Swinton joined the Department in 1924 to take charge of the collection of amphibians, reptiles and birds, succeeding C W Andrews, who had looked after these groups as well as the mammals. Swinton was the author of a number of popular museum guides, and was an excellent lecturer. He left the Museum in 1961 to take up a post in the Royal Ontario Museum.
