A business established in Shrewsbury in 1976 by Alan Godfrey (a founder member of the Charles Close Society), trading primarily in second-hand Ordnance Survey maps and plans. It moved to Dunston, Gateshead in 1980. Second-hand map trading was gradually superseded after 1981 when Alan Godfrey began publishing reduced size reprints of Ordnance Survey County Series plans, mostly those at the 1:2500 scale, also some town plans at larger scales. Reprints of engraved one-inch maps of England & Wales and Ireland followed. By 2006 he had published 2,000 such reprints. Alan Godfrey Maps moved to offices in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1988 (becoming the publication address in 1991), and to Leadgate, Consett in 2000. The business now operates principally via its website www.alangodfreymaps.co.uk
This archive contains copies of sales catalogues listing both second-hand maps and map reprints from 1976, currently to 2007.
