Description (What the record is about)
-
Dear Friend,
I have yours by post dated Monday and yesterday, and will take care of the advertisement as you desire.
On Thursday last I wrote to Mr. Pitt by post that I would be in London on Sunday and would attend him any hour he might appoint, that I should be at Mr. Wiggins', St. Peter's Hill, Doctors' Commons-this was the whole of my letter, and I have not wrote any other letter to him lately.
Sir Robert Lawley asked him in the House on Monday if he had received my letter; he said yes, but that he had not had time to read it. He is much hurried. Don't name Sir Robert Lawley's name on this occasion.
The best way is for you to write to Williams and refer him to me; it would be folly for us to be clashing. However, write to him without reserve what may occur to you as proper, not considering him as a rival; only let me have copy of what you write. If Mr. Pitt should send for me before Friday, I will not say anything that can prevent my agreeing with Williams upon the outlines you suggest.
I believe, too, it would be right to refer Mr. Whitebread to me.
Remember me respectfully to Mr. Watt. I received his letter of the 25th, and will give steady attention to it. With unalterable sentiments of affection and gratitude, I am ever your faithfull friend,
Saml. Garbett
