Description (What the record is about)
-
The first church was an iron pre-fabricated building, which was purchased from the Ceylon Place Baptist church, and erected in 1885. Services had been held in the school house at Norway from at least July 1883.
The vicarage of St Andrew's was built in 1907, pre-dating the church building, the foundation stone of which was laid on 23 October 1911. The architect of the church was W H Murray, and the building contractor was Mr M Hookham. It was consecrated on 25 July 1912. A separate parish was created out of the parish of Christ Church Eastbourne in 1917. Boundary changes occurred in 1951, in 1953 when part of the parish was used to create the new ecclesiastical parish of Hampden Park, in 1957 and in 1969 when part of the parish was used to create the ecclesiastical parish of St Richard Langney.
