Description (What the record is about)
-
These are registers kept by the Committee for the Approval of Public Preachers of those qualified to receive augmentations from the Trustees. The main series are registrations of presentations, in roughly chronological order (nos 3-7), in which each entry is given a serial number endorsed on the deed (see COMM/ ). The numbers start again at the beginning of each year, that is 25 March according to the old style calendar. With the copy or abstract of each presentation are the names of those who have certified the candidate's good behaviour and orthodoxy. No one, including those presented by the Trustees, was allowed to receive an augmentation unless entered in these registers, even if he had been presented before 1654, in which case he was entered in a separate register.
