Gallantry Notes: MC: For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty, when in charge of two guns, which he placed in good positions only 150 yards from the enemy, inflicting considerable casualties. He collected the infantry around him after their officers had become casulaties and helped to break up and repulse a hostile counter attack.

Bar to MC: For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. While in command of a section of four machine guns in a newly formed front line, determined hostile attacks were beaten off with great loss. When wounded, he refused to leave his post until he was severely wounded a second time.;
