Leslie Esterman was the secretary of the Sussex branch of the Maccabi Society. The society is an international Jewish organisation concerned with youth develpoment and the promotion of sport for young people. He was also a regular visitor to Brighton theatres and Glyndebourne and had a large collection of cinema and theatre memorabilia. Chichester Festival programmes were transferred to WSRO and his George Robey collection was auctioned at Phillips in 2001. A large number of Theatre Royal Programmes from 1951 onwards were not retained as they duplicated holdings in the theatre's archive (ACC 8260).
