Description (What the record is about)
-
These majority of these records, 1896-1999, were accumulated by the circuit archivist of the Harrow Methodist Circuit, in the London Borough of Harrow, and consist of both records relating to the administration of the circuit as a whole, and also to the activities of some of the individual churches with the circuit. Records include minutes, registers of baptisms, correspondence, newsletters, plans and photographs, amongst others. Some individual churches are well represented in terms of the quantity of records in this collection, others are less fully represented, and some churches known to have belonged to the circuit are not represented here at all. In 2002 there was an additional deposit of records relating to the Harrow Methodist Circuit. These have been integrated into the old list and the list has been updated.

The three main branches of Methodism in the early twentieth century, the Wesleyan Methodist Church, the Primitive Methodist Church and the United Methodist Church, re-united as The Methodist Church in 1932. Of the churches represented in this collection, most of those in existence by 1932 were formerly Wesleyan Methodist churches, with the exception of Welldon Crescent, Harrow; High Street, Northwood; and Ruislip Common, which were formerly Primitive Methodist churches.
The 'Victoria County History' of Middlesex, Volume IV, pages 262-263 has brief notes on some of the churches in the circuit, mainly concerning dates of opening, reconstruction and closure.
