Grant by John Taylour, John Bate, Adam Corylour, Nicholas le Drapour of Tamworth to Thomas Aleyn and Alice his wife and Richard Kysbewe, of one messuage in Tamworth with appurtenances lying in Chirchestrete in Staffordshire between the tenement formerly of Wiliam Kysbewe on one side and the tenement of Richard Harloston on the other and stretching from the king's highway to Personeslone [18 Jun 1391]

Grant by William Smyght of Thameworth and Margery his wife to Roger Goderiche of Tamworth, Hugh Attwode, Robert de Herlaston of the same and Hugh, vicar of Cowfold, chaplain, of two messuages with all appurtenances lying together in Thameworth in Bollebruggestrete in Warwickshire between the land of Robert de Aston on one side and that of Roger Mesonger and Margery his wife on the other and stretching in length from the king's highway to the king's ditch. Grant by Richard Bromle of Tamworth to John Bate of the same and Denise his wife of two tenements that lying together in Tamworth in le Cherche strete on the Staffordshire side and between the land of Richard Dalton on one side and that of Thomas Barre on the other and stretching from the king's highway to the lane called persones lane; also one tenement with all its appurtenances in Lychefeld strete in the county aforesaid, lying between the land of Richard Bedell on one part and that formerly of Alice Botrye and stretching from the king's highway to the land of the aforesaid Richard Bedell. Release by William Whyte, citizen and carpenter of London and Joan his wife, daughter and heir of Hugh Mason of Tamworth, to John Berde of Tamworth and Isabel his wife of all right in one burgage with appurtenances in Tamworth in the street called Bolbruggestrete, between the burgage of John Berde on one side and that of Richard Pencryche on the other and stretching from theking's highway to the Onker [Anker]; it descended to Joan by hereditary right [6 Jun 1421]

Endorsement: note that this release was enrolled in the court of Tamworth (the Warwickshire side) held there on [16 Jun 1421], with the names Frekynton, Elys Oswythe, Whytt; and John Bede

Rent: 2s annually at the four terms usual in Tamworth. If the rent should be in arrears for a quarter then the lessors may re-enter.

Conditions: lessor to do repairs at his own expense whenever necessary

Agreement between Thomas de Ferrars, esquire, Roger Aston, knight, and Hugh Wyloughby, knight, on one part, and John Pynnok of Tamworth, walker, on the other for the lease for 60 years to John of the other moiety of a burgage in Tamworth opposite the castle and formerly in the holding of Roger Brewod [29 Sep] 1432

Rent: 10d to the king and 20d to Thomas and his fellows annually. If the rent should be in arrears for a quarter then the lessors may re-enter

Conditions: John and his heirs or assigns to build anew the moiety of the burgage well and competently at their own expense within the next three years

Agreement between Thomas de Ferrars, esquire, Roger Aston, knight, and Hugh Wiloughby, knight, on the one part, and Richard Watte of Tamworth on the other for the lease for 60 years of one shop near the gate of the churchyard of Tamworth [29 Sep] 1432

Rent: 6d annually at the usual terms. If the rent should be in arrears for a quarter then the lessors may re-enter

Condition: lessee to build and maintain the shop at his own expense, and leave it at the end of the term

Bond by John Hubberd of Tamworth, Warwickshire, son of Nicholas Hubard, Bailiff of Grendon, to Nicholas Carlton for the repayment of £20 on the feast of St Chad [2 March] [14 Jan 1436]

On the back is a fragment of a rental including references to 6d received for 3 cokshotes in Eggewell and les Bankes and not more because two were granted as demesne lands, and the grant for life of the constablewick of the castle by 'Humphrey lord of Warwick'.

Condition: much faded

Agreement between Thomas de Ferrars, esquire, Robert Aston, esquire, and Hugh Willeby, knight, for the lease for 40 years to Henry Jeeke of Tamworth of a certain pasture called Ketulbroke near Stratfordlee in Warwickshire with free fishery of the water of Tame along the aforesaid pasture, with all its appurtenances and with all those lands and tenements with their appurtenances called Asshelandes in Warwickshire and Staffordshire 12 Nov [1440]

Rent: 76s 8d annually at the four quarters of the year. Should the rent be in arrears in whole or in part for five weeks the lessors may distrain, re-enter and retain it, turning out Henry and his heirs if the arrears be for a quarter and insufficient for distraint be found on the premises

Conditions: Henry to keep the pasture, land and tenement in good condition at his own expense. He is not permitted to cut down or top any oaks or ashes in the aforesaid pasture, land or tenement or their boundaries, but by the supervision of the seneschal or bailiff

Agreement by Thomas de Ferrars, son and heir male of William Ferrars formerly lord of Greby, and John Burward and Walter Cottesden as to the manors of Merkes [Marks] and Gyngieyberdlaundry, Essex, and the advowson of the church of Harewardstok [Stock, Essex] which James Berkeley, knight, and Isabel his wife held for Isabel's life; it is of the heritage of John, and should revert to Thomas and his heirs male. Settlement in default on the issue of William de Ferrars sometime Lord of Greby. Remainder, in default, to the right heirs of William [24 Jun 1447]

Consideration: 300 silver marks

Date: Essex, fifteen days about the feast of St John the Baptist, 25 Henry VI Thomas de Ferrers married as his first wife Elizabeth, eldest daughter and eventually co-heir of Baldwin Freville of Tamworth.

'Gyngieyberdlaundry' is now represented by Ingrave, Ingatestone, Fiverning, Margaretting, Mountnessing and Joyberdlaundri (see J H Round in Essex Archaeological Society Transactions, XIX, part 4 (New Series), p 242)

Quitclaim by William Burley of Bromcroft, Shropshire, esquire, to Margaret who was wife of Richard Grey, knight, formerly lord of Wylton, and Thomas Ferrers of Tamworth senior, esquire, and his executors of all actions, suits, demands and exactions which he had or could have at any time 2 Jun [1450]
