Description (What the record is about)
-
Collection of deeds and papers, mainly relating to the Browne family and their property in the Manors of Kiddington and Nether Kiddington and Asterleigh.
The papers primarily trace the descent of the manor/s, and various other estates, from the 16th to early 19th century. Held by the Babington family from the 15th century, the manor passed to Sir Henry Browne (c.1562-1628) in the early 17th century. He was suceeded by his son Sir Peter Browne (c.1615-1645), followed by Peter's son Sir Henry Browne, 1st Baronet Browne of Kiddington (c.1639-1689), one-time High Sheriff of Oxfordshire. The Kiddington estates then passed to Henry's son Charles (c.1663-1751) and Charles' son George, 3rd Baronet of Kiddington (1694-1754). George's only daughter Barbara married Edward Mostyn and the property descended to their second son Charles Browne Mostyn (c. 1753-1844) in the early 18th century.
Deposited as accession 44 in 1936.
