His father was a jeweller in Lincoln
His grandfather was Chief Constable of the City of Lincoln for over 30 years.
His grandmother's maiden name was CHAMPION.
His grandmother had two brothers, both of whom served in the 8th (Kings Own) Royal Irish Hussars
in the Crimea and Central India during the Indian Mutiny. It was during the latter campaign that the
elder brother James was awarded the Victoria Cross.;
