(1) pp. 1-189, Report dated 24th May 1822 of the Nizamat Adulat on Satis in the Lower and Upper Provinces of Bengal in 1821. In 1820 there were 597 Satis and in 1821 there were 654. (2) pp. 195-207, Bengal to Court 3rd Dec. 1824 remarking on the Nizamat Adalat's Reports on Satis for 1822 and 1823, Difficulty of any interference with the Custom. (3) pp. 209-89, Minute by J. H. Harington 28th June 1823, with, pp. 289-308, his Remarks dated 30th May 1822, Advocates suppression of the practice. (4) pp. 308-56, Extract from a Paper on ''Female Immolation'' published in the Quarterly Series of the Friend of India for March 1821. (5) pp. 357-62, Extract from proposed ''General Rules and Circular Instructions to the Magistrates and Police Officers,'' No. 10, accompanying Letter from the Secretary in the Judicial Department to the Register of the Nizamat Adalat, dated 9th Sept. 1817, Prohibition of Sati under certain circumstances. (6) pp. 365-734, Report of the Nizamat Adalat on Sati for 1822, dated 4th July 1823. In 1822 the number of Satis fell to 583. (7) pp. 737-44, Plan proposed by R. H. Rattray, Magistrate of Ghazipur, 8th July 1823, for discouragement of the practice. Rattray believed that, as in the case of Infanticide, the people would be glad of the excuse furnished by a Government Order for giving up the Custom.
