"M.M." to Horatio Lord Townshend, Lord Lieutenant of Horse "att his lodgings att Mr Nospall's over agaynst the new exchange in the Strand, London": "My lord, the genl lay here yesternight, and continued here till one or two of the clock this day, his company were Sir Ro. Roobwoode, Mr Tasburgh, young Hawes, all Recn. The Mayor and the rest of the body, wayghted upon him att Martins, to whom he promised the renew of their charter, as alsoe the making the river navigable from Brand to Thetford, which, if he doeth, it will cost him at least 3 or 400 £. A very good work - There were at least 500 horses came out of Norwich with him, some 2 miles, some 6 miles and some 10 miles. He hath made a promise of a very great provision for the men of Norwich. He called me knave before all the people when he put his foot in the stirrupp. So my amusing (Jermyne) hath by Mr T advice exasperated th story hugly agaynst me / Amen / Here are strong reports of the (D) of (H) coming over, but how true jh" 19 Apr [16]64
