This collection comprises 23 documents relating to the parishes of Calbourne, Carisbrooke, Godshill, and Whippingham. John Read of East Cowes, gentleman appears to be the John Read, Collector of the Customs at East Cowes, who was buried at Northwood parish church in November 1774. His will was dated 1769 and a copy survives in the papers of the Barrington family of Swainston, a member of this family having acted as executor.
