1292. Wheal Chance. Feb. 1779. 5 items.
Single-acting engine, with 63 inch cylinder, 9 foot stroke, chain connection.Plan of the engine and 2 round boilers - unmarked drawing; side view and plan of the beam - coloured drawing; steam pipes and gudgeons etc.; eduction pipe; printed "List of Materials for Wheal Chance Engine", with various annotations indicating dimensions, where parts are to be made etc.
Original Portfolio or 'Book' No. 9. Catalogue of Old Engines p. 300, 302.
For Wheal Chance. This mine was also known as "Higher Rosewarne", and was located in the Parish of Camborne. Scorrier Mine, near Redruth [see Portfolio 5/1288] was also known as Wheal Chance. According to the List of Engines made at Soho, the engine was stopped in Jun. 1783 and moved to Polgooth Mine, where it worked from Mar. 1784 to Oct. 1796, when "a 66 [inch engine] intended by Bull for Poldice [was] erected in its place." Henry Hazleton listed this engine twice in the Catalogue of Old Engines.
