Description (What the record is about)
-
There are three separate numbered elements:
BOXES 1-56
ROLLS 1-82
FOLDERS 1-17
An ,INDEX provides entry to all of these.
The BOXES hold excavation sheets, cards, notebooks, letters etc, finds sheets, field archaeologists' reports, site books, analytical reports, Project matters etc. The major subjects are listed in the INDEX.
The ROLLS consist of drawings, both field drawings and published drawings, and appear in the INDEX.
The FOLDERS contain flat illustrations, drawings and photos, maps, and are in the INDEX.
A list of CONTENTS of the BOXES, ROLLS and FOLDERS is also provided. This is about 200 pages in length.
To find a particular site archive or subject archive, go to the INDEX and locate the relevant numbers for Boxes, Rolls and Folders. e.g. East Moors in the Index is listed under Box 19, Roll 17 and 18, and Folder 2.
If you wish to locate a particular illustration, e.g. a tree-ring diagram for East Moors, you should look in the List of Contents for the Rolls and Folders; here you will find each illustration numbered individually in a running sequence. East Moors illustrations in Roll 17 are published site plans, those in Roll 18 are field plans, and in Folder 2 you will find East Moors 6 and 7 - tree-ring. The Contents listing of the Rolls and Folders should make this clear.
Abbreviations.
Major sites are abbreviated, to follow the terminology used in the field programmes e.g. Sweet track is SW, East Moors is EM. A full list of abbreviations appears overleaf.
