The True and Faithful Lodge, No. 318, Helston started meeting as a military lodge associated with the Cornwall Regiment of Fencible Light Dragoons and received a warrant of constitution as Lodge No. 582 dated 1 April 1799. The Lodge wrote to the Provincial Grand Secretary for Cornwall, Pearce Rogers in September 1800 and asked to become stationary at Helston, Cornwall. From 1800 members comprised civilians resident in Helston, Clowance and Crowan, Cornwall. When the Antients' and Moderns' Grand Lodges formed a union as the United Grand Lodge of England in 1813, the Lodge was re-assigned No. 600, a number that changed to No. 400 in 1832 before it obtained it present number as No. 318 [SN 1358]. By 1800 the Lodge met at the Angel Inn, Coinagehall Street, Helston, it relocated to the Masonic Rooms, Cross Street, Helston by 1867 and met at Freemasons' Hall, Cross Street, Helston, its current meeting place, from 1880.
