Administrative / biographical background

Preston Borough Constituency (ie the parliamentary borough) did not have exactly the same boundaries as the county borough. Fulwood was added to the parliamentary borough in 1918, as was Walton-le-Dale in 1948, though neither were in the county borough. In 1948 the parliamentary borough was split into two constituencies: Preston North and Preston South.
