Description

A Mughal courtier. Deccan, c.1700-1750. Richard Johnson Collection. Purchased 1807. Numbered 4 in Persian inventory note. Gouache with gold; on an album pege with fawn and plain borders. 180 by 105 mm; page 371 by 252 mm. A Mughal courtier wearing a white jama decorated with pink tulips stands in a field beneath a sunset sky holding a straight sword and a white flower. A 'talwar' and 'katar' are at his waist.
