Administrative / biographical background

Silurian Lodge was granted a warrant by the Moderns' or premier Grand Lodge on 25 January 1791 to meet as No. 576. The Lodge was consecrated on 10 March 1791 and met at the Sun Inn, Kington, Herefordshire. The Lodge was renumbered as No. 485 in 1792 and met at the King's Head Inn, Church Street, Kington from 1794. The Lodge ceased to meet in c.1801 and divided its funds among remaining members. The Lodge furniture was sold in 1804 by the Treasurer to a Ludlow inhabitant for twenty two pounds and ten shillings.
