The Manor House of Hendon, Hendon Place, was sold by the crown to William Nicoll in the early 1640s. It was inherited by his son Paul, grandson John and great-grandson John, who sold it to John Edwards in 1720.
William Nicoll was a freeman of the City of London and member of the Grocer's Company. He married Anne Swallow.and died circa 1645. His son Paul (1620-1682) was a Justice of the Peace and married Anne Kendrick. Paul's son John Nicoll (1647-1711) was also a Justice of the Peace and married Sarah Baker.
