This record is called "Whether the force with which two bodies repel is as the square of the redundant fluid, tried by straw electrometers" in Henry Cavendish's own index (HY/14/2). Seven pages of notes by Henry Cavendish. It is referenced figure 31 in HY/1/15. Maxwell 1879, pxliv states that this record is the last of four that were intended to form a book and be published (HY/1/7/1, HY/9, HY/10 and HY/8).
The record is enclosed in a cover note. Signed by William Snow Harris is a note "No 8 Short Paper on some further Phenomenae of Electricity as bearing on the theory This is an important paper... Mr Cavendish proves and [illegible] very marvellous, considering the [illegible] at the [illegible]. that the Repulsion force of two Bodies connected with a charged [illegible] is as the square of the redundant Electricity- a law fully established in modern times for the attractive forces between two plates one connected with the outer the other with the iron Coating". At the bottom of the page is a note in another handwriting that has been crossed out "A short account of a Work on Natural Philosophy and [illegible] by Dr [illegible]". "No 8" is written in red pen at the top of the page. There are notes in pencil at the top of the page, mostly illegible but the words "it includes fij 30-31" can be made out.
