Description (What the record is about)
-
For the probable earlier title, 1898-1919, see AMS 6779/3/2. Lady Margaret Cecil died on 11 March 1919 and her will of 8 March was proved by her executors, Miss Henrietta Halder (formerly residing with her) and Captain Archibald Macdonald of 93 Grosvenor Road, London, on 15 July 1919. On 25 March 1920 the executors (Miss Helder then of Crowhill Downe in Kent) sold Goodsoal Farm and Swingate (182a 0r 30p, schedule), occupied by A Eastwood, to Frank Piper of Hazelden Farm in Cranbrook, Kent, for £3500. Piper sold the same estate for £4250 to Fred Hayward of Langtye Farm in Ripe on 30 March 1921. On 1 November 1923 Fred Hayward paid £85 to the Ashburnham estate to enfranchise the customary freehold interest of the manor of Burghurst in three tenements forming parts of the farm, held by quitrents of 8d, 3s 4d and 3s 4d, late Lady Margaret Cecil, before Philcox and Baldock. [On 29 February 1924 E C Fairweather and his wife Emily and their mortgagees sold Ponts Farm (151a 2r 6p) for £2700 to Fred Hayward - see AMS 6779/3/5]. On 14 October 1925 Hayward, then of Ponts Farm, sold Ponts Farm (151a 2r 6p, with boundaries) and a house, cottages and 98a 2r 35p (schedule), part of Church Farm and Swingate (lately called Goodsoal) to Vera Carlotta Belilios of Southover Hall, Burwash, widow, for £5700. She agreed to sell the estate to the Southover Estates Ltd of Tudor Lodge, Grand Avenue, Muswell Hill, London, but no conveyance had been executed by 12 October 1944 when she (as Mrs Vera Carlotta Bellairs of Gorran in Cornwall) conveyed estates, including the southern part of Ponts Farm (122.286a) to Margery Tugela Miller of Rumstead Court Farm, Stockbury in Kent for £7600, of which £3000 was apportioned to Ponts Farm. On 29 December 1944 Mrs Miller, of Ponts Farm, was joined by her mortgagees to convey fields OS 1909 1473, 1502 and part 1473a (10.987a with a road-frontage of 85 feet) to Cecil John Mies of Idens Place Farm, Heathfield, for £350.
