Custodial history

In 1665 the whole church, with the exception of the 15th century west tower, was rebuilt at the expense of John Ashburnham.Ashburnham was united with the parish of Penhurst in 1811. The churchyard was closed in 1886 upon the condition that the Earl of Ashburnham enlarged Penhurst churchyard and made a new road from Ashburnham to Penhurst.
