The Estate of Balinakill [Ballinakill], near Clachan, Argyllshire, was formerly owned by the McAlister [McAlester] family (originally known as the McAlisters of Loup). Archibald McAlister of Tarbert purchased the Estate in 1698. It passed to his younger brother, Ronald McAlister of Dunskeig in 1717, and subsequently to Ronald's eldest son Coll McAlister. Coll sold the estate to Colin Campbell of Skipness on his departure for North Carolina in 1739.
The history of the Estate after this date is unclear, but it seems to have been purchased by Mackinnon at some point during the 1840s-1850s.
