Description (What the record is about)
-
The majority of these records concern Lanherne house, the Arundells' main residence in Cornwall from the late thirteenth century until the eighteenth.
AR/12/1 - 16 The general section comprises memoranda and notes, lists, letters and some recipes for medicine.
AR/12/17 - 24 The majority of the household inventories are for Lanherne. See also AR/21 for probate inventories, many for goods at Lanherne, and AR/37/32-34 for Dinham household inventories.
AR/12/25 - 49 These records include two medieval household accounts which the Arundells must have inherited when they acquired the property concerned - one is for South Pool in Devon, the other for Carminow. See also AR/37/35-36 for household accounts of the Dinham family.
AR/12/50 - 113 There are bills and receipts for groceries, fabrics and other household items, for labour in the house and nursery, and bills from the apothecary and ratcatcher.
AR/12/114 - 135 Extensive building work was carried out at Lanherne from 1705 to 1715, details of which can be found in the estate correspondence (AR/10). In 1721-25 a new stable was built and these papers show that there was further work in 1727-8, 1740-2 and 1791.
