Gallantry Notes: Whilst advancing in command of a battery of machine guns to occupy a position, his section came under heavy shelling. His sub-section officer and five men were killed and many wounded, including himself. In spite of his wound and losses he resolutely continued his advance, ultimately reaching his position, where he got his guns into action. His great gallantry and powers of leadership materially assisted the advance.;
