500. Hicks Bros., Eastington (US). Nov. 1826. 4 items.
30 horse power double-acting crank engine, with 29 inch cylinder, 5 foot stroke, parallel motion, [cast iron beam, cast iron connecting rod].Reverse plan and sections of the engine and boiler houses and boilers, plan of the tunnel. All the drawings bear letter codes.
Original Portfolio or 'Book' No. 819. Catalogue of Old Engines p. 110.
For Hicks Bros. Eastington, near Stroud, Gloucestershire. The firm was previously H. Hicks & Sons, and had ordered steam heating apparatus and 10 and 16 horse engines from Boulton Watt & Co. [see Portfolios 5/959, 5/979]. They also ordered a 24 horse engine in 1822 [see Portfolio 5/474]. Hicks Bros. were declared bankrupts in 1835.
