Other Data: Roll of Honour (de Ruvigny) Vol II, Sect 2, p 174: son of Claud H Rowbotham of 5 Grove Place, Falmouth, etcher and engraver, by his wife Lizzie, d of John Howard of Quebec House, Westerham; born Orpington, Kent 12/10/1892; educ privately; was a water-colour painter. Volunteered for active service on outbreak of war, but was 3 times rejected on account of defective eyesight, but was eventually accepted and enlisted as a Private in 4 Bedford Regt in Aug 1914. Commsn 2 Lt 6 DCLI Nov 1914. Drafted to 9 Bn and transf MGC Feb 1916, served BEF F&F from June 1916; wounded battle of the Yser and gassed an buried for 2 hrs at Havrincourt Wood.
Reported missing 30/11/17 and believed to have been killed nr Cambrai on that date. Unmarried.
