Volunteered for active service on outbreak of war, but was 3 times rejected on account of defective eyesight, but was eventually accepted and enlisted as a Private in 4 Bedford Regt in Aug 1914. Commsn 2 Lt 6 DCLI Nov 1914. Drafted to 9 Bn and transf MGC Feb 1916, served BEF F&F from June 1916; wounded battle of the Yser and gassed an buried for 2 hrs at Havrincourt Wood.
Reported missing 30/11/17 and believed to have been killed nr Cambrai on that date. Unmarried.
