Description

Declaration by Wm. Perry of Spring Hill in Lower Penn co. Staffs., Land agent, that:

1. He is in his 71st year and has been from earliest time acquainted with the Shropshire estates of Richard Bayley Marsh of The Lloyd, par. Lower Penn, esq.

2. His father Edward Perry died about 23 May 1844 aged 80 and was from 1799 until the death of R. B. Marsh acting as his bailiff for the estates in which for many years Wm. Perry assisted him. On the death of Edw. Perry, Wm. Perry became agent of Rev. Wm. Dalton and Sarah his wife and continued to be so until the death of Sarah Dalton.

3. R. B. Marsh who he believes succeeded his brother John Marsh to the estates in 1799 died about 1820 having by his will 11 Sept. 1815 and 16 Jan. 1819 devised his estates to his widow Sarah Marsh.

4. About June 1831 Sarah Marsh remarried to Wm. Dalton and a marriage settlement dated 12/13 June 1831 was made.

5. Sarah Dalton died 19 Feb. 1862 devising by her will of 19 May 1846 portions of the Shropshire estates; 3/6 to her niece Ann Harding wife of Rev. Wm. Harding of Sulgrove co. Northants clerk and 3/6 in equal shares to her nephews and niece George Samuel Fereday Smith, Frederick Smith and Sarah Archibald, wife of T. D. Archibald.

6. Those Shropshire estates referred to in the Settlement of 1831 and Will of S. Dalton as secondly described were in his time as agent of the acreages and tenants listed in the first schedule hereto and consisted of the particular properties described in the second schedule hereto and (with one exception) belonged to R. B. Marsh whos received the rents and which premises passed by his will to Sarah Marsh.

1. Sarah Marsh, widow.

2. Mary Alcock, widow, Elizabeth Freeman, spinster, Thos. Bayley, gent., Elizabeth Bayley, Ann Bayley and Mary Bayley, spinster.

3. John Bolas, schoolmaster.

Lease and Release by 2 to 1 of a piece of land in par. Edgmond called the Boleys Butt or Bowleys Butt of 1r. 28p. bounded on the north by a butt of land belonging to -- Griffiths, on the south a road leading to the house once belonging to Mrs. Dorothy Hill then the property of James Dewson and late in the occupation of John Taylor, on the west by lands of Sarah Marsh; another piece of land in Edgmond called the Foxholes Piece of 4a. 1r. 15p. bounded on the north by a piece of land belonging to Andrew Moore, on the west and north by lands of Mr. John Adams of the Anseller House and on the south by a road called The Further Hill Lane; another piece of land in Edgmond called the Watersted Croft of 1a. 2r. 30p. bounded on the east by land formerly belonging to Mr. William Rose and then to John Bayley on the west by land belonging to Sarah Marsh on the south by Adney Lane; all of which premises were then in the occupation of Mr. Thomas Sillitoe, tenant of Sarah Marsh; conveyed in exchange for land at Edgmond called the Lime Kiln Bank or the Lime kiln Nook of 6a. 1r. 6p. conveyed by 1 to 3 for the use of 2.
