Description

CR 2017/TP21/1 Daines Barrington [(1727-1800) lawyer, antiquary and naturalist] at Dolgelly to Thomas Pennant at Downing, 29th Aug. 1771, concerning Pennant's collection of material for the antiquities and natural history of Wales: sending him information on customs practised at Clunog [Clynnog], Caerns.

Enclosed: 2. J. Roberts at Caernarvon to the same at Downing, 15th Apr. 1772: on braians, one of which he promises to send Pennant.

3-4. Copy petition of Hugh Panton to Lord Chancellor Ellesmere, 1610; copy survey of Beaumaris Castle in 1631, both in the hand of P. Panton.

5. Note not in Pennant's hand about the civil war in Carnarvonshire.

6. William Constable at Burton Constable to [the above], 5th Aug. 1771, on his bad health and his pleasure at Sir Joseph Banks' safe return.

CR 2017/TP21/7 P. Panton at Plasgwyn to the same at Downing, 8th Nov. 1774: sending him antiquarian information for his Tours in Wales, with an index in Pennant's hand to this.

CR 2017/TP21/8 The Rev. Henry Ussher [? the astronomer d.1790] at Wrexham Denbighs. to the same at "Dwnyn" undated, answering Pennant's appeal in the Chester paper to the Welsh gentry to give information about the antiquities of their parishes: about Holt Bridge.

CR 2017/TP21/9 A copy of the charter of Englefield granted by Henry III.

CR 2017/TP21/10 Copy documents all but one in the hand of P. Panton, and all but two sewn together and indexed by Pennant who pencilled on the initial page "for appendix": a few of these documents appear in the appendices to Tours in Wales.

CR 2017/TP21/11 "A List of Maps etc. of Scotland consisting of Original Drawings and Engravings by Mr. Timothy Pont..." endorsed" of the Scotch Maps and abbies" by Pennant.
