This meeting followed one held on the 7 May 1951 to discuss the action being taken both to assess the nature of the surge trouble experienced with the Wyvern aircraft and to determine the action to be taken to clear the machine for service use with the minimum of delay. During the three weeks between the two meetings, an assessment has been made by the Westland pilots of the response characteristics of all available aircraft. A total of 13, only 4 are completely acceptable at all speeds up to the present limiting speed of 350 knots. The three machines having the worst response have been flown by our test pilot who confirmed the findings of the Westland pilots
