239c. Bradley Forge Engine. Feb., Jul. 1782, Jan., Sep. 1783. 36 items.
Sun & planet engine, with 42 inch cylinder, 6 foot stroke, chain connection.Includes: Section of the engine, side view of the hammer and hammer frame, dated Feb. 1782.
Plans and sections of the engine - original and reverse section marked "afterwards the hammer was placed on the other side of the fly and a new drawing made", coloured original and coloured reverse section with side view of hammer and harness, coloured original and reverse front view of the engine house, coloured original, coloured reverse and various daft [?] plans showing hammer, coloured original and coloured reverse plan of the 1st floor, plan and section marked "For Bradley Engine supposing it to be in the Smiths' Shop" - this plan shows connection to millwork rather than to a hammer.
Also working gear, including coloured original and coloured reverse front and side views, plan of the upper working gear, side view of the upper working gear; sun & planet gear and cam-shaft; coloured original and coloured reverse drawings of brasses for outer end of beam, gudgeons and plummer blocks, hammer frame, with 3rd sheet marked "This is the one that was executed; parts of the "Forge Mill" to be erected at Bradley"; section of the "Western boiler"; connecting rod; centre of fly wheel and shaft; reverse copy of the situation of the engine, showing the location of the engine house, East and West boilers, old chimney and Furnace Engine.Catalogue of Old Engines p. 56.
For John Wilkinson. Forge engine, working a tilt hammer. Later applied to work reciprocating rolls. Often referred to as the "Bradley Old Furnace Forge Engine."
