Description (What the record is about)

Indenture, 20 October, 8 Eliz., between Calough O'Donell, Lord of Tirconnell, and Hugh Duffe O'Donnell, uncle of the said Lord O'Donell.
I, the said Calough, grant to the said Hugh Duffe, during his life, quiet possession of the house or mansion called Cathir Anuske, and the lands of Gillanneli and Tier McCuerin.
For the greater security of the said Hugh Duffe from his enemies, Lord O'Donell promises to take a sufficient pledge of the O'Galloghers, and to keep him in safe custody to answer to the said Hugh in case he should suffer any damage from the said nation.
It is provided that the said Hugh shall render to Lord O'Donell, as chief captain of his nation, all rights and dues out of the said lands. Also, that if the said Hugh Duffe should hereafter obtain the inheritance (hoereditatem) of his nation or country, called the second place (secundiatum) or "tanisshipp," then the present indenture shall be of no validity.
