The borough of Barrow-in-Furness had an autonomous police force between 1881-1967; previously it had come under the Lancashire Constabulary. It returned to Lancashire in 1967 and was transferred to Cumbria Constabulary in 1974.
Lists of serving police officers were also printed in Barrow Borough Council diaries, 1890/21-1921/22 and in Barrow & District Year Books, 1905-1922
