Originally, Methodist services in Bury were held in premises at Pits o'th'Moor, later in Clerke Street. In 1817, a new chapel was built in Union Street (later Central Methodist Church) and the Clerke Street premises were used as a Sunday school and (from 1851) a day school. Union Street was part of Bury Wesleyan Methodist Circuit until 1949, when it became part of Bury (later Bury and Heywood) Methodist Circuit following Methodist Union. For records of these circuits, see CBW and CBH. The church was demolished in 1999; The marriage registers were deposited at the same time via the Office of National Statistics, Southport under the Marriage regulations 1952.
